EC-145 Lee County 800 Size Scale Helicopter ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) from Roban - RCH-145T1-Lee-County-800
This is the Roban EC-145 Lee County 800 size ARF, a premium scale kit that offers unparalleled detail. From tip-to-tail the EC-145 body kit displays an accuracy of detail to the real aircraft not normally seen in the RC helicopter hobby.
This kit comes with a fully illuminated scale detail cockpit with illuminated dashboard, joysticks, rudder pedals, aerials, windshield wipers and more. Full rear cabin interiors are included (not installed). Floor and ceiling details can be crafted so once the interiors are installed you have an impressively scaled cockpit/interior.
These scale kits house the cockpit in precisely the right location and the mechanics are built into the engine compartment just like in the full scale version. The EC-145 really impresses with the highly detailed and accurately scaled down profile.

Roban Scale Helicopters are intended for modelers who have advanced level building skills. Both ARF and KIT product formats require you to install your own electronics (ESC, servos, motor, etc). KIT product formats also require you to install your own helicopter mechanics. Because helicopter mechanics can vary greatly in size and shape, you may be required to modify the fuselage slightly (including cutting, drilling, etc.) to achieve a perfect fit. Roban fuselages are all handmade from fiberglass and therefore may have slight variation in tolerances between body panels, doors, or windows. These variations do not affect flight performance and can be easily adjusted by an experienced builder with proper tools. These precautions are intended for novice builders; an experienced modeler should have no issue achieving perfect results with these premiere scale helicopters kits.

Extra care should be given in prepping the frame for the mechanics installation. I recommend thinning out epoxy to water consistency to strengthen wood and joints. After all, you have 4 bolts supporting a 20+ lb aircraft. Make sure to Loctite all side frame bolts as well as tail gearbox bolts. A small bit of material was removed from the motor tray front face to facilitate effective tightening of the motor pulley grub screws without stripping them. Now to address why I only give the kit three stars. 1. Roban main rotor blades aren’t the best they could be and have continuously gone down hill since they first came on the market. Anyone flying helis knows what a PITA it is to balance and track blades, well Roban makes steps up the difficulty factor because my blades were all 3-5 grams off from one another. I replaced my main blades with Align 780’s. 2. My tail blades failed in the first 30 seconds of the initial ground run. I like most of my helis to fly at or below 1400 RPM’s. I use Scorpion motors and Kontronik ESC’s with governor control. The bushing were torn out of the blade root by centrifugal force. After inspecting my fleet, I have found this to be a weak point in many other Roban blades showing imminent failure at this point. I have replaced my blades with RotorTech 150’s. Locating and purchasing quality tail blades in the 130-150mm category within the United States is next to impossible. 3. The main rotor head needs a redesign. Main rotor track is difficult to achieve because adjustments can only be done by .5 turn of the ball link (if you are settled in the belief that ball links aren’t installed ONLY one way). I replaced every ball link on the aircraft with SAB Goblin 700 ball links due to them cracking in short time or when they are installed onto their respective rod ends. I also replaced the 2.5mm x 15mm bolts in the PC drive links. They are cheap and bend easy when adjusting the ball links for track. A buddy fabricated a way to make fully adjustable linkages based on bolts and jam nuts, but is a complicated process to set up and make successful. 4. Clarity of the windshields. This aircraft has a very prominent windscreen. With it being somewhat hazy to see the rough, it really detracts from having scale pilots and cockpit. 5. Scale accessories. If you bought this aircraft to really be a scale mock-up of the real thing, you will want to find a 3-D print company to make your scale accessories. The stock ones included in the kit are a bit cartoonish and don’t do the fuselage any justice. I used Tyler Gray and Fine Scale Modela to print my accessories. You can fly this aircraft in its stock form with the published 4 hour assembly instructions prompt, but I feel that imminent destruction or loss of aircraft will occur within the initial 15 flight hours. I personally don’t recommend you buy a Roban helicopter unless you are prepared to spend extra money to make the aircraft reliably flyable. I love Roban helis. The fuselages are great and have a lot of room for potential. My review rates low, but they are good kits if you spend the time and money in them. Scale helis are quickly elevating beyond the “affordable” category which is why I gave it a low value rating.
